Welcome to the Ink and Paint Girls podcast- a look at animation through the women who make it!
Hosted by Cassie Soliday
This week is all about the writers and artists of the Amazon series “PETE THE CAT” produced at Surfer Jack.
Today’s guest is storyboard artist, Fadia Alhallak!
Fadia’s journey has taken her from being a child of war in Syria to an animation professional in America. She shares how having survivor’s guilt from the war torn area inspired her emotional college thesis film, Jasmine, and she continues to carry the weight of the people she wants to give a voice to. While she’s at the start of her career, she is proud to have made it this far! In our conversation, we discuss why quitting was never an option, how she adapted along the way, how every experience- success or failure- leads you to becoming a stronger person-- they don’t call it growing pains for nothing.

This week is all about the writers and artists of the Amazon series “PETE THE CAT” produced at Surfer Jack.
Today’s guest is storyboard artist, Patricia Pham!
She straddled academics and pursued animation in college until she was sure she could follow her heart and commit full throttle. While she didn’t quite know where she wanted to be inside the industry, an internship at Nickelodeon exposed her to all the variety of roles there are that aren’t always discussed in college. Though she never thought she wanted to be a storyboard artist, she found herself crossing over from production to art clean up and a couple gigs later, she’s a storyboard artist!

Today’s guest is Senior Lighting Technical Director, Jasmine Katatikarn!
Jasmine currently works at Blue Sky Studios and her lighting credits span multiple projects that include Ferdinand, Peanuts, Rio 2, Ice Age: Continental Drift, Rio, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Ghost Town, and The Nanny Diaries. But the project that really lights her heart up is the online school that she created along with fellow lighting artist, Mike Tanzillo, called The Academy of Animated Art.
This is a different way of educating students on the non-animation disciplines of animated features and visual effects. Their Academy is designed to be affordable and accessible to everyone looking to get started in computer graphics or expanding their existing knowledge in this ever-changing industry.
