Welcome to the Ink and Paint Folk podcast- a look at animation through the women and non-binary folk who make it!
Hosted by Cassie Soliday
Today’s guest is writer and story editor, Taneka Stotts!
Taneka is an Emmy-nominated screenwriter who’s written for Steven Universe Future, Craig of the Creek, Young Justice, and is currently the Story Editor of Pinecone & Pony. Before animation, Taneka created platforms to showcase diverse and LGBTQ voices with no limitations to their imagination in comics. One of my personal favorites is Casual Hex and Deja Brew was hella good, too. Point is, Taneka’s an amazing storyteller and change maker and you should know who they are. In this episode, we discuss growing up with a medium that has now become their life, how the collaborative process can make your crew feel like a family, how to talk about what you’re doing when you can’t actually talk about it due to NDAs, and how to improve diversity inclusion initiatives to make real change that lasts more than a year.

Sharon was born in Ireland and worked as an animator, supervisor and character designer for studios in Dublin, London, and Berlin before making her way to California. She’s currently a story artist at a newer studio called Spire Animation, but her first job in animation was as an in-betweener on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Ireland and her titles only get more fun and impressive since! Having worked in feature and TV, you may recognize some titles: "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," "Boss Bay" , "Abominable", Kung Fu Panda:"Secrets of the Scroll", Kung Fu Panda 2", "Rise of the Guardians" and "Spirit." Today, Sharon will talk with us through her journey, share her secret to pitching and how it’s okay to not know everything, it’s okay to be soft spoken or not have big energy when pitching, and how no idea is stupid and every voice deserves to be heard.
