Welcome to the Ink and Paint Girls podcast where we celebrate women working in animation and explore representation behind the scenes and on the screen.
In the design department of most 2D animated productions, you’ll find character designers, prop designers, background designers and painters, then finally, color stylists. If they are all in the same department, then why isn’t color styling classified under the “Animation section of the guild contract and why do they get paid less? That’s right, Color Stylist is found under the “Ink and Paint” section of the contract and has lower pay. An outdated section created back in the early days of traditional hand-drawn animation.
So what’s to be done? A sub-committee of Color Stylists within The Animation Guild are out in search of support to make a positive change for themselves and future color stylists. You may have seen their petition floating around, but not quite know what its all about. Well, you’re about to find out! Color Stylists, Ashley Fisher and Jessica Yost stop by the show to discuss!

Welcome to the Ink and Paint Girls podcast where we celebrate women working in animation and explore representation behind the scenes and on the screen.
Veteran animator, Ellen Woodbury, traded in her pencils for saw blades and carving tools and moved to Colorado. Although she left her animation desk behind in California, it’s clear that she kept all of the lessons she gained in her 20+ years at Disney Animation and now infuses the same philosophies into her one-of-a-kind stone sculptures, which you have got to see! In this interview, we discuss how animating is pure creative problem solving, how Ellen made the jump from hand drawn animation into the CG era, and why it doesn’t matter who the first female supervising animator was. Hint, the point is they broke through together.

Breana Williams loves animation, studied it in college, currently works in advertising as a digital designer, but she is dead set on getting a position in TV animation as a storyboard artist. Listen in as we discuss the steps she is taking to get to her dream job, how she stays motivated, and how she bounced back after getting some bad advice after graduation. We also discuss the origins of her new podcast she co-hosts called Black n’ Animated.

Welcome to the Ink and Paint Girls podcast where we celebrate women working in animation and explore representation behind the scenes and on the screen.
Rebecca currently works as a production assistant on Disney Jr’s “Puppy Dog Pals” at Wild Canary, but her path there has been anything but a straight line. She’s worked freelance and in-house animation gigs leading her from Washington D.C. to Atlanta, Georgia, to Burbank, CA. With a desire to learn and soak up more than being just one piece to a bigger puzzle, she decided to transition into production to get the overall scope of the entire puzzle.
We discuss animation production (ok, we basically nerd out over it). We also talk about why it’s important to see ourselves in the art we make and to give back wherever you are... something this podcast is built on.
